Page 10--Camera Mounts > Types> Jib Arm

ABOVE: A jib arm gives you up and down movement--which you can't get with a tripod.
BELOW: A shot made with a jib arm. Note how the camera ascends along the sunflower. It makes for a visually interesting scene. (No Sound)

JIB ARM:
These counterweighted cantilevers are the baby cousins of those huge Hollywood devices you've seen directors riding in in old movies.

Jib arms give you something you can't get with a tripod--up and down camera movement.

Jib arms are a luxury reserved for higher end productions. You won't find one, for example at your local news station. But they do add a dynamic, professional flavor to your video camera work.

A new generation of inexpensive, easy-to-set-up jib arms are becoming increasingly popular--even in the documentary arena.
