are unnecessary. Professionals never
leave home without one.

In
the remainder of this lesson, I will explain the different
types of camera mounts, starting with the most commonly-used
mount, the field tripod.
FIELD
TRIPOD:
Any tripod that is meant to be used outside a TV studio
is considered a field tripod. They are generally lightweight
and easy to set up. Nearly all have a quick release
plate.
Technique:
Professionals use their tripod for more than 80 percent
of their shots. Amateurs use their tripod for 0 percent
of their shots. There's the difference. Even if you
think you can handhold really steadily, you are no match
for the steadiness of a tripod. And those "super
steady shot" buttons on some camcorders really
don't change things all that much.
Can
tripods be a hassle? Yes. Are they a pain to lug around?
Sure. But the result is a more professional shot. At
the very least, tripods should be used for all telephoto
shots and all interviews.
