Editing > Cutting on the Action

So let's say you have a wide shot and a close-up shot of a man sitting down. Both cover the entire action. At what point should you make the cut? By now you know that you must cut at the SAME point in the movement (matched action); but should you make the cut before, during or after the sitting motion?

The edit will work best if you "cut on the action." That is, cut DURING the movement, not before or after.

Cutting on the action is almost always preferable to cutting before or after. Of course, not every sequence has action, but if you have the opportunity to cut on the action, it makes for a more seamless edit.
