Editing > Matched Action

(No sound) After you watch the clip, move the slider to just before and after the edit. Watch the rope especially.

The more things move, the more important it is to match the cut.

Aligning the edit of things that are moving a lot is called matching the action or "matched action."

Consider the 2-shot clip at the right of a cowboy roping a cow. These two shots were shot about a half hour apart. (In fact, the first shot is an unsuccessful roping attempt!) It took me a long time to get this cut right. Move the slider to the point just before and after the edit. Notice that the rope is in the same position just before and after the cut. Also, the rope is the same tautness in both shots. (which I learned is the key to editing calf roping!)
