Low Angle

Similarly, shooting up at someone makes them appear powerful and dominant. This is called a "low angle" shot. Watch any horror movie and you will notice that the monster is always shot from a low angle—typically with the camera on the floor.

In the shot at the right, the camera is about ankle high, looking up at the mountain climber. Viewers perceive the climber has grit and power and is ready for the climb. Conversely, filmmaker could use a high angle shot to make the climber seem weak or unsure.

Of course, for the majority of shots, an eye-level position would be the goal. (That’s the eye level of the subject, not the camera operator!)
