Graphics > Technical Limitations > Aspect Ratio

Vertical (and extremely horizontal) images just won't fit in the television frame very well. For example, consider this map of North and South America. The Western Hemisphere is so vertical it won't fit the 3 x 4 frame.

The vertical Western Hemisphere map poses two problems. First, to make it fit, the map must be made really small. Second, shrinking it down means opening up lots of empty space on the sides. The designer minimized the second problem by adding some interesting graphic elements to the left and right of the map.
