SCREEN DIRECTION

When editing moving objects, it’s important to keep the screen direction consistent. That is, moving objects should be going the same direction in every shot.

To the right is an example from a really, really old western. Yet, even back then, filmmakers knew that for a chase scene to make sense, all the players had to flow in a consistent screen direction. In this case, the action is right-to-left. Note how in each shot, the action is consistently right to left. Watch it.
