NOT Good

BELOW: The Solution

MATCHED ACTION

Sometimes it is hard to match the action when editing—especially when objects are moving in the frame. There's a simple solution that has saved many an hour in the editing room.

Here it is: When shooting, it is sometimes helpful to let moving objects leave the frame—or enter the frame. The point that the object exits or enters is an excellent place to position an edit.

Consider the example clips. In the “not good” shot, the couple is walking along a gravel road, then suddenly they are on grass. It’s a bit abrupt. In the “solution” clip, they enter the frame in the second shot.
