SUPERCARDIOID

Supercardioid" (Sometimes called "hypercardioid") mics are very directional—even moreso than a cardioid.

Most camcorders have an inexpensive supercardioid mic built in--to hear the sound from the object being filmed, rather than the sound of the camera gears turning or the camera operator breathing. (An omnidirectional would give you all that other junk!)

Supercardioid mics are more commonly known as "shotgun" mics. A professional one can cost more than $1,000. Shotgun mikes tend to be long and narrow.

Because the entire mic is sensitive to sound, Shotgun mic need huge windscreens to keep out wind noise.
