Lines and Angles
Composition is an art that takes many years to perfect, but it's amazing how good shots can be achieved by following just a few simple rules.
Diagonal Lines:
For starters, look for diagonal "lines." Horizontal and vertical lines are dull and static, whereas diagonal lines are much more dynamic. Here's an example of how this works. Look at this straight-on shot of a house. Notice how all the lines (roofline, columns, window edges etc.) are horizontal or vertical.
