Lead Room

"Lead Room" is similar to looking room. The idea is that viewers want to see where a moving object is going—not where it has been.

Take football, for example. When a player is throwing, viewers want to see what’s ahead (who will catch the ball?), not what's behind. So the shot is framed to give the player lead room.

In simple terms, shots should be composed to offer a bit more room in the direction the person is throwing or running or hiking or biking—and a bit less room behind.
