Wide Angle

Since wide angle lens settings take in a wider field of view, they are the favorite of many news and documentary camera operators. In other words, you can see more stuff with a wide angle shot--be it a marching band, traffic accident, or living room.

In fact, that's one easy way to distinguish a pro from an amateur in the news/documentary genre. Amateurs shoot 75% of their footage in telephoto. Pros shoot 75% in wide angle.

Fish-eye:

Below is an image shot with an extreme wide angle lens (which means it is a very short focal length lens), called a fish-eye. Notice how the horizon curves. This is NOT a lens you'd use for everyday production, but it may have specialized applications.
