The TV Camera > Camera Types > Studio Cameras

We can group television cameras into three basic groups: Studio cameras, field cameras, and consumer camcorders.

STUDIO CAMERAS: These are the big expensive monsters that are used only in studio settings: soaps, talk shows, live sports etc. The may weigh more than 100 pounds, but studio cameras have the absolute finest picture quality available. But that quality comes at a premium.

Studio cameras can cost well in excess of $100,000. And while the image is better than a $5,000 camera, it's not that much better. Maybe a 10 percent improvement. Studio cameras are configured to make zoom and focus very easy for the operator. And they are typically mounted on big studio pedestals that make dollying easy.
