TV Camera > Introduction

Huge! Back in the 1940s, TV cameras were monstrous. Even when I went to school in the late 70s, the lightest "portable" camera/recorder was 40 pounds. Today: Less than 1 pound.

This is the most technical lesson in the entire course, but don't be afraid--the material is actually quite straightforward. In fact, this unit may provide answers to a lot of questions you've always wondered about.

Although we have engineers to do the heavy-duty technical work in television--it's still very helpful to have a basic understanding of how television cameras work. That's the goal of this unit.

Although it may not be immediately obvious, it's true that understanding the technical nature of television can often help you make better creative decisions.
