While ECUs should be used sparingly, they can be useful for showing extreme emotion. This shot, from Alfred Hitchcock’s "Charade", is the only ECU in the movie. It’s used because it conveys the extreme emotion of the scene when Audrey Hepburn’s character fears she is about to be  killed.
