Here is another example of the same idea. Note how crowded the scene seems. At about the 9-second mark, a man appears between the couple, and he appears to be so close, it almost seems like he is eavesdropping. In reality, the man is more than 10 feet behind the couple. To the eye, this scene wouldn't seem crowded at all. It's the telephoto lens that creates the illusion.
