Lens > Depth of Field

The depth of field for this image is about 2 inches!

"Depth of field" is the term that describes the range of things in focus. A scene that has a large depth of field has nearly everything in focus.

A scene with a small depth of field has only a small range of things in focus. Look at the jellybeans to the right. The ones on the close edge are in focus, but the jellybeans just an inch or two back are out of focus. That's a small depth of field!
