Lens > Wide Angle

Fish-eye: Is this really what fish see? Probably not. "Fish eye" is the term for a very wide angle lens.

Since wide angle lens settings take in a wider field of view, they are the favorite of many professional video camera operators. In other words, you can see more stuff with a wide angle shot--be it a marching band, traffic accident, or living room.

In fact, that's one easy way to distinguish a pro from an amateur. Amateurs shoot 75% of their footage in telephoto. Pros shoot 75% in wide angle.

Fish-eye:
To the right is an image shot with an extreme wide angle lens (which means it is a very short focal length lens), called a fish-eye. Notice how the horizon and palm trees curve. This is NOT a lens you'd use for normal video production, but it may have specialized applications.
