Lens > Introduction

In case it's not obvious... The lens is the thing that sticks out on the front of a video camera.

In the professional video world, it's not uncommon to purchase a $10,000 camera and then bolt on a $25,000 lens.

Professionals understand that the lens is the most important part of the camera, and proper use of the lens is the key to successful video photography.

In brief, the lens captures light and focuses the light on the part of the camera that receives the image (called the CCD chip).
